This readme describes the file in the rock magnetics dataset and its contents. This readme also provides references to where the data is presented in the expedition proceedings.

UT-GOM2-2_MS3-MS2B-mag-summary.xlsx
Excel file of processed rock magentics data from the U.S. Geological Survey. Results are presented in Site H: Figure F60 (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.13971276).
      File Headers:

      Site – Site H
      Hole – Holes 003 and 002
      Core – Core number
Core type – H = advanced piston core, X = extended core barrel, CS = Pressure Coring Tool with Ball Valve (PCTB) in the cutting shoe configuration, FB = PCTB in the face bit configuration.
Section – Core section (number, or CC for material recovered from the core catcher)
Piece – Vertical sub-section of core sections (numbered)
Sample code – RMG = routine magnetic sample from split core, ARM = sample from anomaly in magnetic susceptibility core scan, IWR = sample from porewater squeeze cake sediment (routine analysis), IWO sample from porewater squeeze cake sediment (organic analysis)
Sample top (depth in section, cm)
Sample bottom (depth in section, cm)
Archived sample top depth (mbsf). Depth in meters below seafloor based on archived core lengths (not accounting for core expansion and overlap between cores). Equivalent to CSF-A in the International Ocean Discovery Program.
Archived sample bottom depth (mbsf). Depth in meters below seafloor based on archived core lengths (not accounting for core expansion and overlap between cores). Equivalent to CSF-A in the International Ocean Discovery Program
Compressed sample top depth (mbsf). Depth in meters below seafloor based on compressed core lengths (linear compression fits length of core to length of core advance and prevents overlap between cores). Equivalent to CSF-B in the International Ocean Discovery Program.
Compressed sample bottom depth (mbsf). Depth in meters below seafloor based on compressed core lengths (linear compression fits length of core to length of core advance and prevents overlap between cores). Equivalent to CSF-B in the International Ocean Discovery Program.
Sample weight (g). Weight of sample tared within plastic paleomagnetic cube.
LF mag susc. Magnetic susceptibility measured with low frequency (465 Hz).
HF mag susc. Magnetic susceptibility measured with high frequency (4650 Hz).
Fd%. Frequency dependence of magnetic susceptibility. The % decrease in magnetic susceptibility with a 10-fold increase in field frequency.
